Saint John’s Academy Celebrates 77th Republic Day with Patriotic Fervour and Reflections on Service

Saint John’s Academy observed India’s 77th Republic Day with a grand ceremony held in front of the Hostel Building. The event, which commenced at 09:30 am, was a vibrant tribute to the spirit of the Indian Constitution and the nation’s journey since 1950.

The proceedings began with a warm welcome by Indrani Bhattacharya (XI B), who highlighted the transition of India from a British dominion to an independent Democratic Republic. This was followed by a solemn prayer led by Akshat Maheshwari (XII A), seeking blessings for the nation’s well-being and the smooth conduct of the day’s events.

The highlight of the morning was the unfurling of the National Flag by the Director, Mr. C.V. Innes. As the Tricolour swayed against the morning sky, the assembly stood in unison for a stirring rendition of the National Anthem. The atmosphere was further electrified by a disciplined display of march-past and salutes by the school cadets, showcasing the precision and dedication of the student body.

In her English address, Head Girl Alkama Siddiqui (XII B) spoke eloquently on the Constitution as a “living promise” of equality and justice. She reflected on India’s strides in technology and healthcare while reminding her peers of the responsibility to maintain unity in diversity. Following her, Anushka Bharadwaj (XI A) delivered a powerful speech in Hindi, emphasizing that the Constitution provides not just rights, but a roadmap of duties. She paid tribute to the armed forces, specifically mentioning the bravery shown in missions like Operation Sindoor.

The Director, Mr. C.V. Innes, addressed the gathering with a message of introspection. He urged students to look beyond their privileges and focus on their “duties and responsibilities.” He encouraged the youth to develop a nature of service—serving others first and themselves last—to truly become assets to the country.

The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Principal, Dr. Zareen F. Rizvi. She expressed her gratitude to the management, staff, and the NCC cadets for their tireless practice. She also invited the students to participate in the “Bal Mela” activities scheduled to follow in the arena. The event closed with resonant cries of “Jai Hind,” leaving the campus filled with a renewed sense of patriotism.
